Frequently asked questions

Start with the essentials.

If your question is specific to a date or destination, message us and we will review it with you.

01Do I need previous experience?

It depends on the departure. Each experience page shows its level and recommended preparation. If this is your first trip, message us and we will help you choose a suitable route.

02How do I reserve my place?

Choose a confirmed departure and contact us on WhatsApp. We will share availability, the current price, payment details and the steps required to secure your place.

03What is included in each experience?

Each expedition page lists what is and is not included. Final operations vary by destination, so you will always receive a complete confirmation before payment.

04Is reaching the summit guaranteed?

No. Safety comes first in the mountains. Weather, trail conditions, the group's health or instructions from local authorities may change the itinerary or prevent a summit attempt.

05What equipment should I bring?

After booking, you will receive a list tailored to your departure. The guide on this page applies only to mountain trips in Mexico and explains their layering system and essential equipment. International trips operate differently.

06What equipment does Alpath provide?

For mountain experiences in Mexico, Alpath provides the technical and camp items listed in this guide's included-equipment strip. On international expeditions, gear, rentals and baggage depend on the destination and are confirmed separately.

07Can I travel solo or with a private group?

Yes. You may join a scheduled departure or ask for a private experience for your group, company or community.

08What happens if the weather or route changes?

The guiding team may adjust times, the route or planned activities to maintain safe operations. Any important change is communicated to the group.

09How do cancellations and changes work?

Terms depend on the experience, its suppliers and how early notice is given. We will share the applicable policy before your booking is confirmed.

01

Head and face

Protect exposed skin, preserve visibility and keep warmth from escaping through your head.

  • Buff or balaclava for wind and cold.
  • Warm, comfortable beanie.
  • Water-resistant headlamp with spare batteries.
  • Category 2–4 sunglasses and SPF 50+ sunscreen.
02

Upper body: four layers

Each independent layer has a purpose: move moisture, retain heat and block wind or rain.

  1. Base: thermal dry-fit, preferably long sleeve, to move sweat away from the body.
  2. Mid layer: light, warm fleece that can be removed while moving.
  3. Insulation: down, synthetic or hybrid jacket to retain heat during stops.
  4. Shell: waterproof, windproof outer jacket, ideally with a hood.
03

Lower body: two layers

Combine warmth and mobility without using bulky garments that restrict your stride.

  1. Base: light, breathable thermal dry-fit leggings.
  2. Outer: flexible, water-resistant mountain or snow pants—not denim.
04

Hands and feet

Extremities cool quickly. Carry a dry backup and test your footwear before the trip.

  • Light tactile gloves plus a thick insulated pair.
  • Two pairs of breathable thermal mountain socks.
  • Comfortable boots with reliable grip and room for your toes.
05

Pack and hydration

Pack so you can reach water and layers without emptying your bag on the trail.

  • Daypack with at least 30 liters of capacity.
  • At least two liters of water in secure containers.
  • Energy snacks, personal medication and small personal items.
  • Keep your waterproof shell and warm layer near the top.
!

Avoid cotton

Cotton absorbs moisture, dries slowly and can make you feel colder once you stop moving. Choose synthetic or merino technical fabrics that dry quickly, and carry critical layers in a waterproof bag.
